“King David’s personal complexity—as lover, father, warrior, and king—make him one of literature’s most compelling characters. But Jack Lawson not only narrates with imagination and humor; his life of scholarship in Semitic studies gives the tale historical authenticity. The result is a fresh and nuanced portrait and an engaging read.”
