“A challenging survey of some links between 1 Corinthians and the Roman colony at Corinth. Winter's study will be widely debated because of its fresh and frequently surprising insights. After Paul Left Corinth will appeal to students as well as specialists.”
History & Biography
“This study is so masterful in its grasp of a vast array of evidence, so solid and innovative in its methodology, and so audacious in conception that it is bound to become a classic. It is the most important historical and sociological study ever written on Roman Christianity.”

“...a brilliant and audacious investigation of the narrative strategy of Mark. Roth's mastery of Hebrew paradigms illuminates the second Gospel with compelling and at times breathtaking detail. The discovery of Mark's scriptural code in the Elijah/Elisha narrative will provoke many New Testament scholars to probe more deeply into the Hebraic roots of early Christianity.”
Israel's Law and the Church's Faith
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This is the most clearly written and understandable treatment of the debate over the law in Pauline thought that I have seen. The book is eloquent, witty, and penetrating, solidly grounded in an understanding of contemporary scholarly discussion. This may well become the definitive resolution of the problems posed by recent research.”

“Of Widows and Meals is a first — the only comprehensive analysis and unbiased interpretation that I have seen of the references to koinonia in Acts 2 and 6. Reta Halteman Finger surveys everything written about this issue and shows that the Jerusalem church was sharing resources of its members to support daily communal meals, and that the widows played a decisive role in this ministry. A brilliant, provocative, and courageous study, with revolutionary implications for the contemporary church.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“This theological construction is so imposing that it is likely to become the lightning rod for the next phase of scholarly storms. . . . Both in opening up new solutions to knotty interpretive problems, Paul the Apostle is a major achievement. It should be on the 'must-read' list for every serious devotee of the New Testament.”
Theology
“Robin Stockitt has written a powerful and persuasive book that shows the centrality of shame in human experience and in the biblical message. It is the most readable and theologically astute account of Christ's ministry to the shamed that is available today. This warmly pastoral book contains rich resources to deal with crippling experiences such as being treated as unworthy or unwanted.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“The Irony of Galatians is the most thorough and innovative investigation of this letter since Betz's Hermeneia commentary (1979). It develops a completely new approach to Galatians as a response to local Jewish 'influencers' who sought to bring members of Christian cells into the status of honored proselytes within their synagogues. With his mastery of historical, social, and linguistic details, Mark Nanos challenges centuries of traditional interpretations — including my own. This incisive book is certain to become the storm center of future debate, throwing new light onto the interaction between Jewish and Christian groups in the first century.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“A constructive dialogue on 1 Thessalonians. These ecumenical contributions push forward the quest to understand Paul's earliest letter.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Sampley offers a clear and easily understood exposition of Paul's ethic, taking account of a widely accepted consensus about living between the old age and the new. It is the most accessible treatment of the issues currently available and should receive a wide readership.”
