A Short History of the Roman Mass
Preaching & Worship
“A work of inestimable value to the Catholic faithful. Father Lang is probably the world's leading expert on the history of the Roman Mass. In this lucidly written book, he shows how the Roman Rite developed from the Last Supper through the patristic, medieval, and Tridentine eras. He then provides an objective and insightful overview of the Liturgical Movement, the Second Vatican Council, and efforts of post-conciliar popes to foster liturgical renewal. Dedicated to the loving memory of Pope Benedict XVI, this book should be on the reading list of all faithful Catholics who wish to understand the historical development of the Roman Rite of Mass.”
“A brilliant investigation into a complex and fascinating subject in which the boundaries of mysticism, psychology and spiritual direction intersect. Probably no one is better prepared to provide such sound guidance on this sensitive topic than Fr. Groeschel.”
Bonaventure, John Duns Scotus, and the Franciscan Tradition
Theology
“In this volume, Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, OFM Conv. (1931–2018) manifests his profound understanding of Franciscan Mariology. He illuminates the deeper reasons for Mary’s predestination and Immaculate Conception, and he shows how Marian co-redemption is at the heart of the Marian doctrine of both St. Bonaventure and Blessed John Duns Scotus.”
Theology
“"Drawing upon his personal knowledge of Neo-Calvinism as a one-time adherent, Eduardo Echeverria manifests the finest qualities of a Catholic theologian and ecumenist in this remarkable book. By comparing the rich Catholic theology of Vatican II with the teachings of Neo-Calvinists like Bavinck, Berkouwer, and Dooyeweerd, a fruitful 'dialogue of love' emerges, one that illuminates the key points of convergence and divergence between the two faith traditions.”
Ecclesiology and the Franciscan Charism
Theology
“In this volume, Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, OFM Conv. (1931–2018), shows how ecclesiology is central to the Franciscan charism. Drawing on the insights of St. Bonaventure and St. Maximilian Kolbe, he sheds light on the Franciscan understanding of history as well as the complementary roles of the Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit in the Church. This volume contains a brilliant introduction by Fr. Timothy Geiger, OFMConv., and many instructive insights by Fr. Fehlner on the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the life of the individual and the Church.”
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“In an age filled with much confusion, Edith Humphrey points readers to the hidden treasures of Scripture and the authentic meaning of the Christian life, rooted in the mysteries of the Trinity and the Incarnate Word. Ecstasy and Intimacy invites us to discover 'the astonishing potential of Christian intimacy with God' revealed in the Holy Scriptures.”
How to Talk About Jesus With Anyone
Evangelism & Missions
“In his 1975 apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Nuntiandi, St. Paul VI said that “evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity.” Many Catholics, though, feel ill-equipped to evangelize. In How to Talk About Jesus with Anyone, Steve Dawson and Cy Kellett provide a deeply spiritual but also practical guidebook on how to evangelize. Drawing upon years of experience with the St. Paul Street Evangelization and Catholic Answers Live, Dawson and Kellett not only explain why Catholics should evangelize but how they should do so most effectively. This book provides practical guidelines and examples of how Catholics can share their faith in a manner that respects human freedom while trusting in the Holy Spirit.”
Theology
“Father Dennis Billy, CSsR, provides a profound reflection on the last things in this important book. Deeply rooted in Scripture and the Catholic tradition, Father Billy sheds light not only on the theology of the last things but also on the spiritual implications of the mysteries that lie beyond our earthly lives.”
Theology
“Marian Metaphysics is a beautiful synthesis of Franciscan Mariology rooted in the insights of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Bonaventure, Bl. John Duns Scotus, and St. Maximilian Kolbe. J. Isaac Goff deserves much credit for editing this volume of Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, which brings to light insights on the primacy of Christ, the incarnation, and the role of Mary, the Immaculate Conception, in the metaphysical structure of the universe.”
Mary, God-Bearer to a World in Need
Theology
“Hearden and Kimball have assembled a magnificent collection of essays that shows how Marian doctrine and devotion can enrich and inform (inter alia) Christian mysticism, art, ecclesiology, anthropology, soteriology, the gospel of life, the theology of the body, marriage and family life, social justice, and Christian-Muslim relations. The authors confirm the insight of Pope Paul VI: 'If we want to be Christian, we must also be Marian.'”
Children & Youth
“The evangelization of Catholic youth is one of the most important challenges in the church today. Professors Cavadini and Wallenfang have brought together an amazing collection of essays written by some of the foremost Catholic experts in the evangelization and education of Catholic young adults. Drawing inspiration from Pope Francis’s 2019 exhortation to young people, Christus vivit, the authors of this volume explore ways to help young people find their roots in family, school, society, and, most of all, in Christ.”
Theology
“There is a growing interest in the thought and spirituality of St. Maximilian Kolbe (1894–1941). In this volume, Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, OFM Conv. (1931–2018), proves himself to be a master of Kolbe’s Marian thought. For those wishing a deeper understanding of Kolbe’s theology of the Immaculate, the purpose of total consecration, and the meaning of ‘the slavery of love,’ this book by Fr. Fehlner cannot be recommended enough.”
Studies Systematic and Critical
Theology
“In this volume, Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, OFM Conv. (1931–2018), shows himself not only to be an expert in Mariology and Franciscan thought, but a profound philosopher and theological critic. Those who read this volume will benefit greatly from Fr. Fehlner’s insights into philosophers such as Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche, and Heidegger as well as his critique of some more recent theologians such as Karl Rahner and Catherine La Cugna.”
Theology
“The most fitting word to describe Systematic Mariology is ‘brilliant.’ Msgr. Arthur B. Calkins provides a masterful introduction to this volume, which contains some of Fr. Fehlner’s most significant writings on the predestination of Mary, her Immaculate Conception, and her role as Coredemptrix, Mediatrix of All Grace, and Advocate. Systematic Mariology shows how minimizing Mary’s cooperation in the work of redemption undermines the Catholic understanding of the Church, the sacraments, and salvation.”
The Theology of Renewal for His Church
Theology
“Ecclesiam Suam is one of the most important documents for understanding the ecclesiology of Vatican II. Many scholars, though, have neglected its significance. Bushman makes up for this deficiency by showing how Paul VI’s plan for ecclesial renewal—rooted in a call to deeper conversion, holiness, and mission—informed the efforts of John Paul II and Benedict XVI to implement the authentic teachings of the council.”
Theology
“What is the purpose of creation? Can the Christian faith be harmonized with the theory of evolution? How credible is the evolutionary theology of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, SJ (1881–1955)? These are just some of the topics covered in this volume by Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, OFM Conv. (1931–2018). Drawing upon the insights of Augustine, Bonaventure, and Scotus, Fehlner provides an understanding of creation that is scientifically informed and theologically profound.”
