Contextualizing the Faith

Christian Living

“Moreau pushes the boundaries of contextualization beyond systematic theology in significant ways that will impact Christian witness. Engaging the critical need for a full-orbed approach to contextualization, including storytelling, the performing arts, and life rituals, he offers a grounded approach to making Christ known.”

Creativity and Captivity

Evangelism & Missions

“Fresh, innovative, and significant! Balasundaram takes on the tough, emerging questions whirling around globalization, the creative arts, and the missio Dei. Rich with new concepts and approaches, he identifies and gives voice to indigenous cosmopolitan musicians (ICMs) caught in the ‘in-between’ of shifting worldwide dynamics in postcolonial arenas. . . . I highly recommend it!”

From Trials to Triumphs

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Sometimes things seem overwhelming. Evil continues to increase and ravage good people. When will it ever stop? Rev. Faustin Ntamushobora offers us rare insights into questions of theodicy in our global era. As one who sacrificially lived out his faith during the Rwandan genocide, Ntamushobora thinks profoundly, writes passionately, and helps us to live through the wretchedness of life as we put our faith in the God of Habbakuk.”

Grazing and Growing

Preaching & Worship

“The newly-emerging ethnodoxology movement is rapidly gaining momentum due in large part to young scholars like Megan Meyers who are modeling how to do serious fieldwork and walk with faith communities around the world in integrating music and other arts more fully into the life and ministry of the church. If you are feeling any measure of passion about this issue—as indeed you should be—then this study is a great place to start!” —James R. Krabill, general editor of Worship and Mission for the Global Church: An Ethnodoxology Handbook “Grazing and Growing addresses key concerns in Contextualized Worship Arts that speak directly into the hearts, spirituality, and theology of the burgeoning church in southern Africa. More than mere entertainment or performance, Meyers addresses essential cultural processes at work in music and the arts when local believers engage the scriptures and make them their own.”

Songs of Ethiopia’s Tesfaye Gabbiso

Arts & Literature

“Lila Balisky's investigation into the songs of Tesfaye Gabbiso is destined to become a classic in the power of theologizing through song in the midst of suffering. Her intimate understanding of the Ethiopian context, having lived through the Ethiopian Marxist revolution (1974-1991) with local believers, brings authenticity to the depth of Tesfaye's testimony in songs that sustained Ethiopian Christians during severe persecution. It will force you to think more deeply about God and His ways.”

Worship: Beyond the Hymnbook

Preaching & Worship

“Worship is vintage Kraft! His penetrating analysis of worship drawing on cultural approaches and communication principles gives us a rich resource for going deeper in our relationship with God and what we do in church services. From issues in 'hijacking worship' to worship as relationship that is formal, informal, or deceitful, Chuck Kraft stimulates us to get beyond the hymnbook in his engaging, inimitable way.”
