Morning and Evening Prayerbook
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“A marvelous, diverse collection of prayers mined from the richest of all the major Christian traditions and centuries. A simple yet profound aid for one’s personal devotional life.”
On Earth as It Is in Advertising?
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“An important, urgent, penetrating analysis of how today's pervasive materialism seduces us and how biblical faith liberates us.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“This book reflects and reveals the emergence of an already powerful and potentially monumental development in global Pentecostalism. A growing number of Pentecostals are rediscovering their own early tradition of nonviolent peacemaking grounded in their passionate desire to follow Jesus without compromise. If even a quarter of today's six hundred million Pentecostals would combine Jesus' call to nonviolent peacemaking with the explosive power of Pentecost, the demons would tremble, the Church would flourish, and the world would rejoice. This important book offers exciting clues about how that might happen.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“Simply wonderful, solidly biblical, marvelously practical. This book charts a clear path through one of the greatest challenges (and failures) of the American church. A must-read.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Raise Your Voice is a powerful call to action. The book is full of moving personal stories, excellent writing, and judiciously scattered solid theology. This delightfully written book summoning us to courageous action to promote racial, gender, and economic justice could not come at a better time. Khang calls us to speak out. And she helps us see how to do it.”
Christian Living
“Tony Campolo has been a powerful voice for biblical justice for decades. One need not agree with every word to recognize Red Letter Christians as another important call to action.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“Released Outward is a powerful plea to nurture holistic congregations that live and share the whole Gospel. Drawing on decades of experience as a white pastor pastoring a black congregation in South Chicago, Lowry offers great wisdom on how to deal with all the brokenness of our world-addiction, racism, economic injustice, and much more. Highly recommended.”
Theology
“This volume makes a significant contribution to the important task of bringing into print all the treasures in Yoder's unpublished materials. John Howard Yoder is the greatest Mennonite theologian/ethicist in our history. Revolutionary Christianity provides further insight into his fertile, creative mind.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Simply fabulous. Wonderfully honest. Superbly written. Deeply inspiring in its powerful portrayal of one person's struggle to choose Jesus above all. I learned so much from this fantastic story of Greg's both agonizing and exhilarating journey in faith. This is a book every Christian—especially heterosexual evangelicals—must read if we are to learn to love our LGBTQ neighbors, friends, and Christian brothers and sisters the way Jesus does.”
Subversive Jesus Radical Grace
Evangelism & Missions
“Henderson gives substance to words often ignored or trivialized by contemporary Christianity: radical obedience, costly discipleship, repentance, idolatry, dominion of God, servanthood, and holiness. Henderson's commitment to a holistic agenda is timeless--an important read for disciples of any generation.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“An excellent book full of fine biblical discussion, current socio-economic data, and powerful stories. A solid help for Christians wanting practical help on how they can act effectively to reduce poverty here and around the world.”
The God of Intimacy and Action
Prayer & Spiritual Formation
“An important call to ground our evangelism and social action in a powerful personal relationship with the living God nurtured by regularly seeking the presence of God in our lives. A helpful book on an urgent topic.”
The Myth of the American Dream
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Simply excellent! A wonderful mix of captivating personal experiences, biblical teaching, and probing structural analysis. Mayfield gently draws us in as she candidly shares her doubts and struggles, and she vigorously challenges us with her powerful summons to see and change systemic injustice. Unless the evangelical world begins to understand the fundamental critique of this book and truly repent and change, we do not deserve to continue to exist. A must-read.”
Fiction
“What actually works to reduce poverty in poor countries? A distinguished development economist uses the unusual format of a well-written, emotion-packed novel, weaving together careful history and sophisticated economics, to show the ordinary reader what works and what does not. Gripping, enlightening, and very readable. A must read.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“A significant introduction to the important but too-long neglected topic of a solidly Christian approach to the (mis)treatment of animals. One need not agree with every argument to realize this book presents an urgent challenge that biblical Christians dare no longer ignore. King’s chilling stories, extensive statistics, and probing biblical arguments offer a great place to begin.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
Foreword
“Using the tools of biblical theology and Christian ethics, Dr. Agang wrestles hard with the concrete problems of contemporary Nigeria. This book represents a new generation of Nigerian Christians who are dissatisfied with the past failure of the church to fundamentally transform Nigerian society. . . . But When Evil Strikes is important for far more Christians than just those in Nigeria and Africa generally. At a basic level, Christians everywhere face the same fundamental problems. Christians everywhere must decide how to respond to corrupt, ineffective politicians, widespread poverty, and violent threats to peace and justice from militant extremists.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“What an opportunity evangelicals have to make a difference in our world through the church. Corbett and Fikkert build on the growing momentum of holistic witness that's sweeping our country and globe and are eminently qualified and positioned to take motivated kingdom citizens on a Christ-centered and comprehensive journey that will pay huge dividends for impoverished people and for Christians in our broken world.”
Evangelism & Missions
“It sounds too good to be true: economic development to reduce poverty in a way that protects the environment and respects indigenous cultures--while offering stunning experiences and spectacular sights for eco-tourists. But it is happening. This delightful, carefully researched book tells encouraging stories and offers helpful analysis on how to expand and improve this exciting, important development.”
