Child of the Apocalypse

History & Biography

“In his well-researched book Child of the Apocalypse, Casebolt examines Ellen G. White’s ‘I saw’ endorsements of Millerism’s now-discredited and largely forgotten multiple prophetic periods and celestial signs. Did Miller’s historicist ‘predictions’ originate from angelic guidance or from disconfirmed Reformation-era speculations? As time would quickly crush Millerism, young and impressionable White was forced to ‘re-envision’ herself. Would her writings now stand the test of time?”

Father Miller's Daughter

History & Biography

“With carefully documented research, Casebolt’s magnum opus unlocks the story of William Miller’s dependence on an allegorical-typological-historicist group of commentators—not solely on a Bible and a concordance—and then how Ellen White appropriated Miller’s disconfirmed, prophetic interpretations. Nearly two hundred years after 1844, this book reveals the magnitude of how history was ignored and embellished, and how at times, plain Bible texts were imaginatively used to create novel dogmas.”
