The Lamb of God

Bible Studies & Devotionals

“User-friendly, biblically reliable, theologically astute, enthusiastically sensible, encouragingly realistic, and deeply Christ-centered—all without losing sight of the fact that the Bible student is to be a disciplined ‘workman (or woman) who does not need to be ashamed.’ Once again we are deeply indebted to Nancy Guthrie for giving the church an outstanding Bible study resource to help us all grow in the grace, knowledge, and wisdom of God.”

The Last Adam

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Modern New Testament scholars have sometimes missed or even denied what seemed obvious to the early fathers of the church—namely that the figure of Adam, and not merely the shadow of Israel, serves as the ultimate background to the Gospel narratives. In The Last Adam Brandon Crowe helps to right this wrong in a scholarly, comprehensive, readable, and indeed theologically thrilling way. Here is a work of carefully argued biblical scholarship that also makes a significant contribution to the work of systematic theologians. In addition it satisfies a great desideratum for ministers of the gospel and teachers: a resource book filled with a cornucopia of good things that will stimulate their thinking and enrich their preaching and teaching.”

The Lord Bless You and Keep You

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“We often hear the words of the Aaronic blessing pronounced at the end of worship services. There’s a beauty to its rhythm; its vocabulary sparkles with grace—bless, keep, peace. And we all want God’s face to shine on us! And yet, despite the popularity of this blessing, we rarely hear anyone explaining what these words really mean or what difference they make to daily life. Thankfully, Michael Glodo has arrived to help us! Combining the heart of a pastor with the understanding of an Old Testament scholar, as well as a deep appreciation of worship, he brings us treasure in both hands. The Lord Bless You and Keep You is a book to savor and enjoy.”

The Lord's Supper as the Sign and Meal of the New Covenant

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Many Christians suffer from a spiritual depth-perception problem or theological myopia when they come to the Lord’s Supper: all they see is bread and wine. Enter Guy Waters, expert spiritual ophthalmologist. In a single consultation he restores our depth perception and reduces our myopia. Perhaps to our surprise, he takes two-thirds of his time patiently guiding us through the pages of the Old Testament. Surely the Lord’s Supper is a new covenant ordinance! But Waters knows what he is doing. Prescribing biblically crafted lenses for us, he shows us the bread and wine again and asks, ‘Do you see more clearly now?’ Read these pages carefully and you will find yourself saying, ‘Yes, it’s so much clearer now. Thank you so much; it’s wonderful!’”

The Psalms

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“These wonderful volumes on the Psalms place the whole church of Christ in their author’s debt. To have carried to completion the vision of such a project is a breathtaking accomplishment. And to have done it with the author’s characteristically loving and careful approach to the text of Scripture, coupled with richness of exposition, humility of spirit, and wise personal and pastoral application, stimulates our admiration and gratitude. In an era when the evangelical church in the West has, by and large, turned its back on the wisdom of two millennia of Christian praise dominated by the Psalms, these four magnificent volumes provide both the equipment and the inspiration needed to discover what our Lord and Savior himself experienced. They deserve to become—indeed, are surely destined to be—the go-to resource for multitudes of preachers, teachers, and students for decades to come. We are richer because of their publication.”

The Reformation

Theology

“Professor Stephen Nichols is already well-known for his remarkable ability to make history live and sing. This new work is no exception and will simply enhance his well-deserved reputation. It is a scintillating helicopter tour of the amazing men-and wonderful women-of the Reformation. Here conviction joins with courage, holiness with humor, in a wonderful medley of Christian heroes and heroines.”

The Serpent and the Serpent Slayer

Theology

“The Bible’s narrative is essentially an unfolding of the conflict promise embedded in Genesis 3:15. Everything between the covers of Scripture is contextualized by the ways the serpent seeks to destroy the seed of the woman. But the end of the story is promised from the beginning: although the serpent grows large into a fierce dragon, its head is finally crushed by a Lion who, even before creation, was destined to become a slain Lamb. This conflict is not Scripture’s only unifying theme, but it is a fundamental one, and Andy Naselli highlights it wonderfully. He provides us with a key that will open the door to a new appreciation of the sheer thrilling nature of what God has done for us in Christ. Prepare, then, to be thrilled by The Serpent and the Serpent Slayer!”

The Supremacy of God in Preaching

Church Leadership & Ministry

“Occasionally, among the myriad of books for ministers, a work appears so seminal to the preacher’s calling that it can safely be said: ‘This is a must-read.’ The Supremacy of God in Preaching is such a book.”

The Trinity

Theology

“The often-repeated baptismal words ‘in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit’ contain the profoundest truth Christians ever hear. They show us who God is, and they teach us who we are. That is why we need to grow in our understanding and experience of them. Scott Swain helps us to do that in this welcome contribution to Short Studies in Systematic Theology. The book lives up to its description: it is short (Swain gets straight to the point); it invites you to study (no superficiality here); and it is systematic theology (and Swain is exceptionally gifted in it). Plus, you will be able to understand Swain; and you can trust what he writes. What more could you ask for in such a compact treatment?”

The True Image

Theology

“We have come to expect both solid learning and exquisite literary style from Philip Edgcumbe Hughes. The True Image is no exception. Indeed it is a remarkable piece of work, quarried from a lifetime of study in biblical exegesis, systematic theology, and church history. It is encyclopedic in its discussion of anthropology and Christology and their mutual relationship. The novitate will find it instructive, while the theologically advanced will discover comprehensive exposition married to a scholarly judgment that sometimes resurrects classical views, sometimes provides the unexpected, and on occasion surprises with the controversial.”

The Weakness of the Law

Theology

“Paul's famous question, 'Why, then, the law?' has haunted the Christian church. Today questions about the nature of the law of Moses, its relationship to the gospel, and its function (if any) in the Christian life remain dominant issues for contemporary New Testament scholarship as well as for practical Christian living. This careful study by Dr. Jonathan Bayes makes a welcome contribution to an important debate, and provides an intelligent and wise corrective to some less careful thought on the role of God's law.”

The Whole Armor of God

Christian Living

“Here is a rare find! This is the work of an Old Testament scholar with an easy-to-read and engaging style who believes in the ongoing activity of the evil one and writes about spiritual warfare with pastoral wisdom and biblical sanity. He knows that the battle in which we engage and the armor God supplies for us are not ideas dreamed up by the apostle Paul but were deeply embedded in the long narrative of the Old Testament. And he knows that the Lord Jesus himself faced the enemy and field-tested the armor for us. So here is a much-needed book, a battle manual for every Christian to use, and a guide for every pastor to follow.”

Tim Keller on the Christian Life

Christian Living

“The way the ministry of Tim Keller and Redeemer Church penetrated the secularized culture of Manhattan drew the attention of a surprised media. Remarkably, this was based not on an ever-changing pragmatism (‘whatever works’) but on an intelligent, clearly articulated, and winsomely expounded Christ-centered biblical theology. Tim Keller on the Christian Life explores the manifold ways this theology shaped Tim’s understanding of how the gospel restores and transforms. Those who heard Tim will be understandably eager to read these pages, and all readers will find a stimulating exploration of the impact of gospel grace. Congratulations and thanks are due to Matt Smethurst for this groundbreaking study.”

To Save Sinners

Theology

“To Save Sinners is a magisterial study not only of the divine intention of the atonement but also the very nature of the atonement itself. Michael Riccardi’s analysis is careful, and his exegetical and theological discussions are equally impressive in their patience and scrupulous fairness. This work is a multiple layered model of exegesis and biblical theology, of systematic clarity and gracious polemics. It is a major and very welcome contribution to a topic that lies at the very heart of the gospel.”

Turning the World Upside Down

Christian Living

“Iain Duguid’s Turning the World Upside Down—based on the opening chapters of Acts—is a splendid gift to us from a writer who stands in the church’s best tradition of being both a professor and pastor. It skillfully combines interpretation of Scripture with clear and relevant applications. It is scholarly yet readable, simple yet enriching, enjoyable yet challenging, packed with expositions of the ‘there and then’ that help us see and feel their implications for the ‘here and now.’ Here is a book to help both the church and the individual Christian turn our world ‘upside down’ in order to turn it ‘the right way up.’”

Warfield on the Christian Life

Christian Living

“If the only thing Fred Zaspel had accomplished in these pages were to point us to B. B. Warfield’s masterpiece sermons in his too-little-known Faith and Life, he would have done the church yeoman service. But he has done much, much more! In Warfield on the Christian Life we are given the privilege of sitting at the feet of a Christ-centered, Bible-saturated, gospel-loving theologian of the first rank and learning how to say, ‘To me to live is Christ.’ A very welcome addition to what promises to be a valuable series.”

What Does It Mean to Fear the Lord?

Christian Living

“We used to sing a hymn that said, ‘O how I fear Thee, living God! With deepest, tenderest fears.’ No longer. But the hymn’s first lines remind us of what we are missing: ‘My God, how wonderful Thou art, Thy majesty, how bright.’ Only those who find God to be ‘wonderful’ and his majesty ‘bright’ experience the ‘tenderest’ fear. So we have a problem; but thankfully help is at hand in What Does It Mean to Fear the Lord? Like an elder brother, Michael Reeves guides us into a fresh understanding of the fear of the Lord. On the way, he introduces us to some of his friends—masters in the school of discipleship—who have walked the path before us. Join him on the journey. You will soon discover why ‘the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him’ (Ps. 147:11).”
