Heavenly Imagery and Symbolism in Matthew’s Gospel

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“This wonderful book helps us to see a familiar text with fresh eyes. It shows how heaven plays a vital role in Matthew’s story of Jesus and that his confrontation with the High Priest is about which of them has truly entered the divine realm and so bears legitimate authority. The insights found here deserve to be widely read.”

Jesus and Myth

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“This is a significant book. It is not often that an idea comes along that helps you to read familiar texts in a new way, but Peter Barber’s work does just that. His careful engagement with the thought of René Girard and Bruce Malina has resulted in an original and creative discussion contrasting the patterns and structures found in the canonical Gospels with those found in myths. The outcome not only makes a significant contribution to the way we study the Bible but also has considerable apologetic potential.”

The Maker’s Mark

Christian Living

“Andy has drawn on his extensive experience as a disciple and a pastor to address one of the pressing issues of our time: How can we live authentic lives of genuine integrity? His answer is that we need to be formed as Christian people so that our lives manifest the fruits of the Spirit which are seen so clearly in the life of Jesus. Each chapter offers helpful illustrations and stories, thoughtful comments on the Gospels, insights from the rest of Scripture, practical suggestions for how we might cooperate with God so he might cultivate each virtue in our lives, and questions for further reflection. The result is a tremendous resource to enable personal transformation so that our lives are imbued with God’s grace, love, and purpose.”
