The Persian Shepherd Boy and Other Tales

Preaching & Worship

“The Persian Shepherd Boy and Other Tales is a collection of true stories, folklore, and fables that Robert Gnuse uses to enliven his parish sermons. He captures the imagination with story and then uses the story’s meaning to clarify related biblical texts. These short narratives provoke suspense, humor, curiosity, the reversal of expectation, inspiration, and intrigue. The power of the evolving story engages readers to see old well-known biblical lessons with new insights and new ways of seeing.”

Trajectories of Justice

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Dr. Gnuse examines the cultural and social context of Biblical texts that are often cited to support controversial issues related to women's rights, debt oppression, slavery, and same-sex orientation. He critiques common mistranslations of these texts and explores whether these texts give evidence of protecting the dignity of oppressed groups in Biblical antiquity. Readers will find Gnuse's scholarly discussions thought-provoking and insightful.”
