John Wesley, Natural Man, and the 'Isms'
History & Biography
“I learned a lot from this book! I've been a pastor for 40 years but there is always something new to learn and this book is very educational and interesting. Ewbank's book is an examination of John Wesley's theology regarding various "isms" of his day. Much of the book is a study of Christianity as it relates and contrasts to some of the movements of the 18th century. The book is a compelling read especially for those of us who have not come from the Methodist tradition. "My biggest surprise was the fact that even though it was written about issues involved in the 18th century, so much of what was true then, is still the case today. Eubank does a wonderful job of connecting a the dots from Wesley's preaching to current trends in ministry and theology. Though seminary trained, I had little exposure to the doctrines of Calvinism, Pelagianism, and prevenient grace. The research presented in this book has given me a desire to learn more about Wesley and the "isms" he faced. "John Wesley, Natural Man, and the "Isms" is very astutely outlined, well-researched and well-documented. I especially appreciate the attention to documentation as this is so often lacking in many of today's books of this nature. "Whether you end up agreeing with Wesley or not, I think you will end up with a better appreciation for him, his time, and his teaching.”
