Communicating with Grace and Virtue

Christian Living

“This wonderful book draws from our Christian tradition of both listening and expressing ourselves, giving it current application through various means—from silence to smartphones. It makes us better communicators and even guides us to become better people.”

Maine Metaphor: Maine in Winter

“Quiddity comes to life in this profoundly and gently moving medley of Maine Metaphors. Not since Annie Dillard took me into the Virginia woods have I enjoyed looking and seeing the world anew as much as taking this winter walk with S. Dorman, who marvels at the mysteries and moments of mercy that come with just living and wearing mittens. I feel like the old dog Boots, who is released from his chains, delights in infectious joy.”

The Undertaker's Wife

History & Biography

“In the world of running, how you train can make all the difference — and it’s the same thing on the track of life. Many thanks to Dee Oliver for writing about grief and loss in a way that will help all of us prepare to finish the race with strength, dignity, and even a little laughter along the way. THE HONORABLE JIM RYUN, five-term Congressman, three-time Olympian Where humor meets God and takes the sting out of death — regardless of our race, economic status, or what shoes we wear to the funeral! SUSAN ALEXANDER Yates, speaker and bestselling author. In The Undertaker’s Wife, Dee Oliver has opened a coffin for us and found a laughing body. She has scripted out a poignant, hilarious, and practical autobiographical work that laughs at a death that may yet make us weep, but has lost its sting. Here is a lived theology of Resurrection in the midst of traveling through a valley of tears. Like Chaucer’s Wife of Bath, Dee may have sent her husband on to Jesus, but by the end of the book, we want to travel the rest of our journey heavenward with her. We know it will be an inspired hoot of a story, just like this marvelous book.”

The Unknown Garden of Another’s Heart

History & Biography

“Kohm shows us what wonders ensue when one dares to cross a street to visit a sick neighbor. This exceptional work shows the secret garden of an abiding fifty-year friendship between Lewis and his homely and fascinating first friend, Arthur Greeves. Kohm chronicles how the mulch of letters fertilized key ideas and themes in Lewis’s thought, providing a fresh and welcome narrative of the power of friendship as a road to knowing God.”

The Wages of Cinema

Arts & Literature

“If, as Dorothy Sayers quipped, the 'only Christian work is good work, well done,' then Crystal Downing has scripted a magnificent Christian work on a fascinating and wonderfully unruly Christian saint whose thoughts on art, beauty, goodness, and cinema reshape the ways in which we might watch films. Downing is no 'hoity-toity film buff' but a creative mind that remakes the experience of filmgoing a religious renaissance of a mystery play.”
