“Jesus warned us about becoming like the Pharisees, and Michael Reeves reminds us in this winsome and penetrating book that we need to heed that warning today. We all are prone to trusting in ourselves and longing for the praise of people instead of resting and delighting in the gospel of God’s grace. We never move beyond the gospel or the need to repent of our self-dependence, and thus this book is a spiritual tonic for our souls.”
Excusing Sinners and Blaming God
Philosophy
“It is often alleged that determinism or Calvinism or theological compatibilism (call it what you wish!) doesn't fit with moral responsibility. Bignon contests this thesis elegantly and forcefully. Here we have a philosophical defense of what is often called a Calvinist view of divine sovereignty, showing that Calvinism is not only biblically grounded but philosophically defensible.”

“The first two editions of Exegetical Fallacies proved to be of immense help in interpreting the Scriptures. This third edition, which adds the contribution of Andy Naselli, updates the book for a new generation. The book is accessible, clear, instructive, and thus at the end of day (though sometimes painful) edifying.”
Exegetical Gems from Biblical Greek
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“The book is aptly titled: readers are indeed treated to exegetical gems from the Greek text. Merkle also provides a concise review of Greek grammar as he discusses particular biblical texts. This is a most helpful way to keep up or review one's Greek and to learn more about the biblical text at the same time.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“Pastors get worn down, discouraged, depleted, and depressed. This short but pastorally rich book will prove to be a spiritual tonic for pastors. I recommend reading and meditating on the essays in this book, which will provide strength and solace for the journey.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Jarvis Williams has written an outstanding commentary on Galatians. The content is accessible to the ordinary reader, and at the same time Williams is conversant with both the ancient world in which Galatians was birthed and modern discussion of the letter. Readers will profit from his careful exegesis, the understanding of Paul's theology, and the application of the letter to today's reader.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Understanding the structure and flow of discourse in the Epistles is crucial for grasping their message. Randall Tan, in this excellent study on Galatians, helps readers understand how a linguistic approach helps us perceive the argument and the meaning of Galatians. Sometimes linguistic approaches are difficult to grasp for ordinary readers, but Tan clearly communicates the benefits of the approach, and in doing so he unfolds the meaning of the letter for readers today.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Todd Wilson’s exposition of Galatians is both Biblically grounded and theologically rich. But it doesn’t stop there. Wilson powerfully and astutely applies the message of Galatians to contemporary life. Galatians isn’t left on the shelf; the Word addresses us as those who are tempted to walk according to the flesh, and we are reminded of what it means to be led by the Holy Spirit.”
Glory in Romans and the Unified Purpose of God in Redemptive History
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Donald Berry's study of glory in Romans represents biblical theology at its best. Berry considers the role glory plays in the storyline of scripture but also leads readers through what Romans teaches about glory. Even those who don't agree with everything Berry says will find his study to be challenging and illuminating. A book on glory in Romans needed to be written, and we can be grateful for Berry's insightful and theologically rich contribution.”
God and the Faithfulness of Paul
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“The interaction with Wright in this volume testifies to his fascinating and fecund scholarship. Scholars with different areas of expertise and from a diversity of perspectives concur with, challenge, and broaden what Wright has written. Good conversations invariably deepen our own understanding, and we can be grateful that this volume represents dialogue at its best.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Beale and Kim show the theme of God's presence among us from Genesis to Revelation. We taste in this book the glory, radiance, comfort, and strength of God's presence. At the same time, we learn how to read the entire Bible as we trace the tabernacle/temple theme throughout the Scriptures. A vital and compelling work for students, pastors, and all who want to delve more deeply into God's Word.”
Marriage, Family & Relationships
“The book is especially valuable because it is remarkably clear and comprehensible, while at the same time reflecting deep and responsible research. I consistently found the conclusions to be sound and biblically faithful.”
God's Kingdom through God's Covenants
Theology
“Gentry and Wellum offer a third way, a via media, between covenant theology and dispensationalism, arguing that both of these theological systems are not informed sufficiently by biblical theology. Certainly we cannot understand the Scriptures without comprehending ‘the whole counsel of God,’ and here we find incisive exegesis and biblical theology at its best. This book is a must-read and will be part of the conversation for many years to come.”
History & Biography
“Bob has written a book which should prove of interest to readers on a number of levels . . . I say this [despite having] significant theological differences from Bob on a number of vital issues . . . [Hearing] about Bob's own faith journey and theological development is fascinating . . . [and] the book is marked by honesty and vulnerability. Bob's story of his heart problems, his heart transplant, and the struggles that mark his life are riveting and edifying. I enthusiastically recommend [GraceQuest].”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Scholars in the last few years have focused on the Pauline view of the Law, but other parts of the New Testament have not received the same attention. Barry Joslin has now written a fresh and stimulating work on the role of law in Hebrews. Nor is Hebrews considered in isolation, for the place of the Law in Second Temple Judaism is explored. Further, the structure of the argument of Hebrews is examined so that Joslin's interpretation of the Law is integrated with the argument of Hebrews as a whole. Future studies of the Law in Hebrews will have to reckon with Joslin's careful reading of the text.”
Identity and Moral Formation in 1 Thessalonians
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“In this important study, Kiwoon Lee considers the rhetorical nature and background of 1 Thessalonians, focusing particularly on the identity and moral formation of the nascent Christian community. In contrast to those who explain identity exclusively in sociological terms, he emphasizes the theological character of their identity and the role of the Old Testament in unpacking the meaning of the letter. Scholars will profit from this careful study that interacts extensively with current scholarship on the letter but also roots the letter in the historical context of the Jewish and Hellenistic world.”
In the Fiery Furnace of Suffering
Christian Living
“This is one of the best books on suffering I have ever read. It is packed with biblical truth so that we are reminded of God's sovereignty and his purposes in suffering. At the same time, Laughlin tells us a number of stories about his own suffering, and some are agonizing. Laughlin is transparent about his own weakness and his own fears, and reminds us that our strength in suffering is only in the Lord. I was encouraged and challenged in reading this amazing book.”

“Feminism has left its imprint on virtually every aspect of Western culture, including the Christian faith and the interpretation of the Scriptures. Margaret Köstenberger expertly surveys the scholarly work of feminists on the person of Jesus Christ. We are treated to the entire landscape of feminist scholarship on Jesus, from radical feminists to egalitarian evangelicals. Most important, Köstenberger subjects the claims of feminist scholarship to critical scrutiny, showing that they fail to measure up with the teaching of Scripture. Köstenberger's criticisms are irenic, but at the same time they show the deficiencies of the feminist paradigm.”
Jesus, the Temple and the Coming Son of Man
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“The interpretation of Mark 13 is controversial and sometimes a bit baffling. Robert Stein—with his characteristic clarity, common sense and exegetical skill—unpacks the meaning of the passage for readers. Even those who disagree will profit from Stein's lucid exegesis and will have to wrestle seriously with the arguments he presents for his reading. All readers will recognize the hand of a veteran and wise interpreter at work. We stand in debt to Stein for an outstanding exposition.”
