A New Chronology for the Kings of Israel and Judah and Its Implications for Biblical History and Literature

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“. . . a lucid, carefully constructed new chronology . . . packed with fresh ideas and daring proposals . . . offering dates for many of the major events in the life of Israel and Judah, setting these events in their international context . . . making much more precise than is customary the dates of the biblical events.”

Images for Self-Recognition

Theology

“This essay is a creative and most welcome work in Christian theology by a person deeply engaged with the struggles of believers and non-believers to make sense of the Christian tradition today.”

Problems in Biblical Theology

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“"A splendid collection of special studies bearing on the theology of the Hebrew Scriptures. The contents are varied, including warm personal tributes to the honoree as well as detailed studies of special themes, texts, and problems. It is good to see a festschrift that contains essays disagreeing with the honoree, agreeing but with critical reservations, agreeing without qualification, and--in a few cases--bypassing the honoree's work with interesting new lines of inquiry. This collection not only reviews and brings up to date the question of how to approach a theology of the Old Testament; it also furthers the search in several important ways. . . . A fitting tribute to a scholar who has contributed immensely to the clarifying of what we ought to mean by 'Old Testament theology' and what our best lines of pursuing this task may be.”

To Liberate and Redeem

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Edward LeRoy Long's To Liberate and Redeem is the most successful book I know in bringing together the disciplines of biblical scholarship and religious ethics. The gains for both disciplines are immense. For biblical studies, Long lays out the biblical stories and issues in their unmistakable import for public life, for the life of the faith, and for further reflection. For religious ethics, Long's grasp of the central biblical message is presented convincingly and compellingly for specialists in Jewish and Christian ethics. The book is a pleasure to read.”
