William Robertson Smith

Biography

William Robertson Smith (1846–1894) studied at universities in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Smith previously served as Chair of Hebrew and Old Testament at the Free Church College in Aberdeen, and later as reader in Arabic at Cambridge, where Smith was also a member of Trinity College. Smith's books include Kinship and Marriage in Early Arabia, The Old Testament in the Jewish Church, and The Prophets of Israel.
