Publisher's Description
This collection of poems divides into three section: Rocks, Roads, and Reflections. Rocks—mountains—sometimes they are literal ones like Chimney Rock or Jump Off Rock, or Brasstown Bald that, in the writer’s experience, provide jumping off points for speaking of various aspects of faith. Other times they are symbolic “rocks,” people who encourage us in our faith journeys. Roads—ones like Saluda Grade, the Dragon’s Tail, or the streets we’ve lived on—help describe paths we take, the life of faith a part of them all. The final section of the book comprises Reflections and describes something of the author’s journey of faith throughout decades of life and ministry. Within this section are numerous poems related to Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter that prove valuable for seasonal inspiration. The author hopes that the book encourages readers to ponder their own “rocks” in the faith as well as the roads they may have traveled. Additionally, she hopes her reflections invite the readers into ones of their own.

“Shirley Wright’s poetry stems from a life of pastoral ministry. Her words are grounded in the places and experiences of being ‘on the way’ with people and now looking back to see ‘the long way that the Lord has brought you.’ With prayer, discernment, and flashes of humor, she offers honest reflection on the places where we stumble and the ways we keep going.”
“Shirley’s powerful and insightful poems capture the vast ways in which we encounter and define the ‘rocks’ in our lives: through God’s majestic creation, as symbols of both stability and impediments, and as characteristics which we strive to achieve. Wonderful.”
“Rocks, Roads, Reflections takes us on a journey down an eclectic assortment of Roads, including ‘The Tail of the Dragon,’ a rollercoaster ride, twisting and turning, grabbing the surprises of life’s events. The final section, the largest collection of poems, Reflections, reminds us of the soulful tools we all need for a better life: faith, trust, persistence, and hope. Shirley Biggerstaff Wright has created a meaningful offering of poetry that will make you smile, cry, and thirst for more.”
