African American Theological Ethics

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“To understand the nature and meaning of life for African Americans in the United States requires some attention to theological and ethical discourses shaped by black communities from within a context of various forms of violence. Peter Paris’s African American Theological Ethics is an important collection of key documents related to these discourses. Framed, as he puts it, by memory and hope as historical underpinning for response to cruel circumstances, this volume highlights central patterns of thought and action that define African American ‘religious’ life. This collection, edited by a key figure in the study of African American religion, is a welcome addition to African American religious studies.”

Methodologies of Black Theology

Theology

“Frederick Ware provides a much-needed, detailed, and insightful analysis of black theology--digging beneath popular rhetoric to expose its complexities and inner workings. Methodologies of Black Theology brings into focus what it means to do black theology and challenges depictions that falsely limit its reach and modalities. Anyone interested in learning about the various methodological frameworks, and concerns present in the enterprise known as black theology--its past, present, and future unfoldings--should read this book. I highly recommend it.”
