Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Brandon Washington has emerged as a much-needed prophetic voice for such a time as this. When many “exvangelicals” are publicly disavowing American evangelicalism and leaving the church, he affirms his commitment to evangelicalism as he not only diagnoses what has gone wrong but offers a cogent way forward. He passionately calls us to restore American evangelicalism by a return to our roots by bringing the gospel to bear on sins such as injustice, racism, classism, and sexism. He deals with historical, cultural, and theological complexity in a way that is engaging and accessible.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Esther Cen makes a convincing case that Paul seeks to empower the Corinthians rather than to dominate them through the development and application of a rigorous and sophisticated methodology based on socio-linguistic criteria. This book is an excellent resource for Pauline studies and for pastoral theology, and it is an invaluable demonstration of the use of methodology in biblical scholarship.”
Theology
“Making Sense of Motherhood embraces complex concepts that are central for the Bible and theology. These women scholars are uniquely qualified by who they are and by their social location to make sense of motherhood in its biblical, theological, and practical dimensions in a way that is both academic and personal. They demonstrate that motherhood provides rich resources for biblical studies, and the disciplines of theology.”
Preaching and the Mission of God
Preaching & Worship
“David Fields has written an accessible and interactive book about preaching that combines theory and practice in an engaging way. He provides practical helps for writing a sermon, but first he takes us on a journey of transformation through a missional hermeneutic that reorients us to the Bible as a story of God’s redeeming work in which we locate our sermons, to the gospel that shapes us as faithful witnesses, and to the post-Christian context in which we preach. It is challenging, inspiring, and thought-provoking.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Porter writes a different kind of commentary for the Pastoral Epistles, one devoted to an accessible linguistic interpretation of the Greek that helps the reader understand the language of the texts and their situational context. While focusing on insights at the clause level, he also sheds new light by bringing linguistic theory and the data of the texts to bear on the critical issues and the notorious interpretive problems of these controversial and intriguing letters.”
Christian Living
“The desire to understand one’s calling is particularly important for students in Bible colleges and seminaries, so this book is a must-read for their professors and mentors. However, this study shows that calling is also a crucial issue for every believer. Drawing the meaning of calling directly from the New Testament, Klein and Steiner show that our calling is in Christ, and they place it in the context of corporate identity and character rather than in a specific ministry, job, task, or role. They provide relevant and pragmatic applications for living out our call as well as healthy correctives to past and present misunderstandings of calling.”
