Covenant Lord and Cultic Boundary

Theology

“The creative and confessional exegetical insights of Meredith G. Kline (1922–2007) have broad application for Reformed faith and life today. In this thought-provoking book, Michael Beck focuses on the formative influence of Kline’s covenant theology in the development of Reformed Two-Kingdom thought. Readers will especially appreciate Beck’s measured, balanced, and meticulously documented assessment of Kline’s engagement with the alternative Reformed approaches of theonomy, perspectivalism, and neo-Calvinism (all, in Kline’s judgment, forms of monocovenantalism).”

Empowered Witness

Christian Living

“The debate over American slavery and the ensuing Civil War may not seem the best context for revisiting the doctrine of the spirituality of the church, but Alan Strange looks carefully at the teaching of Charles Hodge that was refined and nuanced in his debates with Southern Presbyterians and other competing versions of the doctrine. Though Hodge did not win the day, he points to how the church can speak into the pervasive politicization of our age. Strange’s commendation of a ‘mere spirituality’ is indeed no diminution of the church’s voice but rather the more excellent way of an ‘empowered witness’ to a divided and confused culture.”

In Defense of the Eschaton

Apologetics

“Cornelius Van Til regularly expressed his indebtedness to the biblical theology of Geerhardus Vos throughout his professorial career. Those privileged to hear Van Til preach or pray surely understood why. But because Vos's influence on apologetics was subtle and indirect, Van Til's claim has generally eluded many readers of his works. Among interpreters, Bill Dennison stands virtually alone for consistently underscoring this connection. As displayed first in his Paul's Two Age Construction and Apologetics (1986), Dennison's essays and articles, gathered helpfully in this anthology, demonstrate the necessity of reckoning with the eschatological dimension of Van Til's work in order fully to assess his contribution to Reformed apologetics.”
