A Liberation Theology of the Brain

Science & Faith

“Carmelo Santos-Rolón’s contribution is a fresh and unusual introduction to this area of study. His strong academic background in the area of science and insightful understanding of Christian theology makes his book a valuable introduction to this field. His valuable reflection in considering this field also lies in the clarity and inviting nature of his approach. His use of short stories to engage the reader in a complex analysis of the complicated, challenging, but fruitful nature of the dialogue among neuroscience, Christian theology, and decolonial approaches to knowledge is not just exciting, but also enlightening. This first effort in socializing to a broader audience his splendid experience in research, shrewd reflection, and ministerial practice promises a productive contribution in the years to come.”

Doing Theology Latinamente

History & Biography

“This is a book that creatively and meticulously provides an unmatched systematic study of the emergence, development, and significance of what the author describes as the Protestant Latinx Academic Movement. While not a professional historian, the author aims to provide this "story" as "an informed and reflective witness of this movement." While scholarly literature has already established that during the 1960s in the US, Latinx religious constituencies in Protestant congregations began a protest to change "the way Latinx churches and ministers were conducted, treated, and funded in their predominantly white/Anglo-European denominations," these studies "have not developed a clear argument regarding how a segment of this movement became interested in gaining greater access to and transforming the theological education offered to Latinx leaders in Protestant and Evangelical seminaries affiliated to the ATS." Surely, one of the most conspicuous contributions of this story is the author's contention that the movement emerged as a group committed to social justice, to presently become "a source of transformation and innovation in the US establishment of graduate theological education." As an active participant in this project, I concur with the author and continue to contribute to its myriad forms of offerings.”

Hanging On and Rising Up

Theology

“Patricia Cuyatti Chávez’s book, a recent volume in the Princeton Theological Monograph Series, is a well-informed effort to provide a panoramic historical view of a Christological perspective characteristic of her experience in the Peruvian Evangelical Lutheran Church (ILEP) . . . The book is surely an important contribution for those interested in the topic. It may become an important source for the formation of church leaders, as well as for those pursuing advanced studies in the area of Latin American religious experience.”
