Theology
“The dynamism of the house church movement in China in the face of difficulty is one of the most compelling and inspiring stories in contemporary history. While the movement as a whole is composed mostly of smaller, low-profile churches, Pastor Wang Yi is a major voice coming from larger, higher-profile church circles. The sobering reality of his current imprisonment calls us all the more to pray for him (and other imprisoned Christians)—and to engage his ideas seriously.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“As one of the countless students who has been shaped by the teaching ministry of Gary Tuck, it is a great joy and honor to commend Jesus Shall Reign. Tuck’s love for the Lord, students, and Scripture shine in this book. Readers will be helped by his characteristic insight into the biblical text (the fruit of a career of study), and his students will have the special blessing of feeling like we are in his classroom again.”
Bible Studies & Devotionals
“Bartholomew's scholarly expertise and Vanosky's expertise teaching the Bible to everyday people from diverse backgrounds pair nicely in this helpful resource that captures the story line of the Bible in six acts (and thirty short chapters), emphasizing God's kingship. Readers who are new to the Bible or are unsure of how it fits together will enjoy this book.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Walton and Walton rightly view Torah in the broader context of wisdom and as an expression of wisdom. This is exactly what passages such as Deuteronomy 4:6 and Psalm 19:7 imply.”
The Order of the Old Testament
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Dr. Melendez rightly emphasizes the importance of the tripartite Hebrew canon and its ordering of Old Testament books, which is distinct from the English order. He uses six different approaches to help readers appreciate this order and in the process provides a helpful lesson in Old Testament hermeneutics. Filled with examples of canonical exegesis of biblical texts, this book is an accessible introduction to an oft-neglected topic.”
Theology
“Dempster makes biblical theology come alive in this engaging book. A trusted guide, he takes readers through the Bible's dramatic, true story of the restoration of God's perfect rule over creation with human beings as his vicegerents and priests. As Dempster points out, this kingdom often appears to be upside-down in comparison to the kingdoms of this world. Insightful and accessible, this book both instructs us about God's kingdom and rightly exhorts us to live in light of its consummation.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Both accessible and scholarly, The Torah Mosaic deftly guides readers through the Pentateuch with consistent attention to its author’s selection and arrangement of the material. McKenzie helps us to see that the Pentateuch is not merely an accurate record of history; it also bears a theological message best discerned through attention to issues of textual production and composition. Providing fresh readings of key texts, stimulating illustrations, and reflection on Christian practice, this book will be of help to all who want to understand the foundational book of the Bible better.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“Mitchell Chase takes readers on a journey through the Scriptures with a focus on the rich concept of wisdom. In the process, he helps us develop a well-rounded understanding of biblical wisdom. The numerous applications in this book show us what wise living can look like in life's varied circumstances and that biblical theology is relevant to the life of the church and the believer. Those who want to be numbered among the wise who 'shine . . . like the stars' (Dan 12:3) in our fallen world will surely benefit from this book.”
