Power Politics and Moral Order

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Power Politics and Moral Order is the definitive reader on Christian realism. From Butterfield and Niebuhr to Elshtain and Weigle, the work includes a wide array of Christian realists addressing a host of topics. Edited by two contemporary and prominent Christian realists, Eric D. Patterson and Robert J. Joustra, the book is required reading for every student of international relations and those involved in making foreign policy.”

Religious Freedom

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Far too many scholars and popular writers contend that American conservativism poses an existential threat to America’s constitutional order, especially our nation’s commitment to protecting religious liberty. To the contrary, John Wilsey argues in this timely book, American conservatives are in the best position to articulate and defend these important values. He recognizes, as he must, that America has flaws, but he demonstrates that improvement must be predicated upon building upon the best of the nation’s constitutional and religious traditions.”

The Godless Constitution and the Providential Republic

Ethics, Culture & Social Issues

“Steven D. Smith is one of the nation’s best students of religion’s role in American public life. In this excellent and timely book, he argues persuasively that the United States was founded on the providentialist view that God actively directs the destiny of nations. In doing so, he demonstrates that the Constitution is not a godless document, that the First Amendment does not require a religion-free public square, and that providentialism remained pervasive until the mid-twentieth century.”
