Theology
“Following the promptings of Jonathan Edwards, Gerald McDermott has written an admirably ambitious and theologically astute account of God’s redemptive plan, from the inner counsels of God before creation to the consummation of all things in the age to come. A New History of Redemption brings readers into the fullness of the historical career of the gospel.”
Adam and Eve After the Pill, Revisited
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Mary Eberstadt is our most astute commentator on the vast human costs of the sexual revolution. Adam and Eve After the Pill, Revisited is essential reading for anyone who wants to navigate out of the wreckage of our present age.”
Chasing the Shadow—the World and Its Times
Theology
“Never sweetly pious, always directly quarried from the particularity of life, Ephraim Radner’s poetry beautifully and movingly reflects the straining, searching, God-desiring pathos of natural theology. Shoes and suitcases speak as eloquently—and as obliquely and uncertainly—as the reliable routines of the lowly ant.”
Creation as an Introduction to Christian Thought
Theology
“This slender volume makes an outsized contribution to contemporary Christian thought. Henry Vander Goot reminds us that the opening chapter of Genesis settles us into a familiar world, the one in which we actually live. He calls for something much more ambitious than a ‘theology of creation.’ Today’s church needs to nurture Christian philosophy, an approach informed by scripture that seeks to see and understand reality, which is at once more available to reason than our secular sciences imagine—and more wonderful and humane.”
Theology
“These essays remind us how indispensable Fr. Barron is as a spokesman for the integrity and beauty of the Christian faith. He combines theological learning and depth with a remarkable gift for knowing what needs to be said--and how to say it.”
Theology
“A must-read! Healy interprets Hauerwas as mirroring Schleiermacher. It's a provocation so clearly argued that this will become a touchstone, not just for future interpretation of Hauerwas but for our engagement with a great deal of contemporary theology.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“American Christians aren't used to living in a society hostile to our core beliefs. This book is a much-needed wake up call. Renn lays out the challenges and gives sage advice about how to bear fruitful witness. A must read for every Christian leader.”
Theology
“What is our Christian duty in public affairs? Many of us imagine that we’re called to put our shoulder to the wheel of progress. Radner argues otherwise. We are called to honor the beauty of creation and to ameliorate, as best we can, the burden of life after the fall. Supposedly high ideals are invitations to despair. Radner shows that we need a politics of finitude, one that is grateful and not grudging. Mortal Goods is a must-read in our difficult times.”
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“one of the leading Christian intellectuals of his generation.”
Theology
“Romano Guardini was one of the most important interpreters of the modern Catholic experience, someone we need to engage again and again. This winsome precis by Hans Urs von Balthasar provides an ideal place to begin.”
Theology
“An elegant, erudite treatment of basic themes in Christian theology, metaphysics, and contemporary cultural criticism. David Bentley Hart has written a book that is both radical and orthodox. The Beauty of the Infinite sets the standard for postmodern theology.”
Theology
“Knight combines a rigorous and scripturally disciplined dogmatic approach with fundamental analysis of metaphysical concepts. The result is an exciting and theologically motivated challenge to our modern assumptions about time and change, embodiment and identity.”
Theology
“"James B. Jordan is remarkable. There are plenty of Bible preachers in America who know the Scriptures well. Lots of professors read books in philosophy, history, and literature and have all sorts of interesting things to say about culture. Pundits cultivate a sharp, pungent, and readable style. But Jim is perhaps unique. Who else writes detailed interpretations of the book of Daniel and quotes Allen Tate's poetry? Who else can give a lecture on echoes of Leviticus in the apocalyptic vision of Zechariah and then chat over cigars about Friedrich von Hayek and Richard Weaver? Moreover, who can cover such a range with vivid images, punchy taglines, and memorable turns of phrase? Not many, which is why I've come to think of Jim Jordan as one of the most important Christian intellectuals of our day.”
Theology
“Vigorous, comprehensive and thoroughly evangelical, The Legacy of John Paul II makes a valuable contribution to our understanding of one of the great Christian leaders of the last century, and advances the cause of Christian unity.”
Ethics, Culture & Social Issues
“Christians are often divided by the justification of homosexuality or some other controversial moral issue rather than the doctrine of justification. This excellent collection of essays helps us think through the ways in which moral differences have reshaped the ecumenical task.”
The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self
Theology
“Carl Trueman’s gifts as an intellectual historian shine in this profound and lucid book. The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self needs to be read by anyone who wants to understand our current cultural distempers.”
The World in the Shadow of God
Theology
“Never sweetly pious, always directly quarried from the particularity of life, Ephraim Radner's poetry beautifully and movingly reflects the straining, searching, God-desiring pathos of natural theology. Shoes and suitcases speak as eloquently--and as obliquely and uncertainly--as the reliable routines of the lowly ant.”
Church Leadership & Ministry
“A unique, invaluable picture of the current Church landscape in the United States. Anyone wanting an accurate understanding of American Catholic life and its realities today needs to read it.”
