A Primer for Christian Doctrine

Theology

“Wilson's doctrinal primer is concise, clear, and thought-provoking; every beginner in the study of Christian doctrine would benefit from reading it.”

Across the Spectrum

Theology

“An outstanding survey of the diverse theological views within evangelical Christianity”

An Introduction to Ecclesiology

Theology

“Kärkkäinen's critical survey of Christian views of the church comes at a time when interest in ecclesiology is rising. It provides a helpful map through the terrain of diverse interpretations of the nature of the church for those interested in an introduction and a refresher course in doctrines of the church for those who studied it long ago but have forgotten much of what they learned. Above all it contributes to our ecumenical understanding of different Christian traditions. It is a gift to the body of Christ to be enjoyed by Christians who want to understand that body's unity in diversity.”

Arminius Speaks

Theology

“It's about time someone produced an edited anthology of Arminius' works for the reader who can't plunge into his collected writings. This collection of selections of Arminius' writings promises to rescue the Dutch theologian's reputation for those who bother to read it. It should be read by anyone who talks or writes about Arminius or Arminianism and will also be a valuable resource for every Christian interested in the Calvinist-Arminian controversy that seems never-ending.”

Benefit of the Doubt

Christian Living

“As usual, Greg Boyd has hit a home run. Benefit of the Doubt is brutally honest, thought provoking, and creative. If I could require all conservative Christians to read one book (besides the Bible!) it would be this one. It would liberate them from fear-based theology and spirituality. As good as the title is, it doesn’t begin to describe this book that ranges far and wide over many issues of fear-based theology and liberating faith.”

Called to the Life of the Mind

Discipleship & Christian Education

“Winsome guidance. . . . Every evangelical scholar will benefit from reading these essays based on a life of leadership in the evangelical academy.”

Christian Theology

Theology

“This volume will serve as a very informative introduction to evangelical Christian belief from a Baptist perspective for students of theology as well as for pastors and interested laypeople.”

Christology

Theology

“This book's distinctive contribution is well expressed in its subtitle: A Global Introduction. The author . . . presents a relatively comprehensive survey of biblical, classical, and modern western christological reflection and then expounds contemporary contextual Christologies from the world's nonwestern cultures and their indigenous churches. Those already familiar with the history of Christian thought about the person of Jesus Christ will nevertheless want to read this book.”

Cross Vision

Theology

“Many thoughtful Christians are dissatisfied with the usual alternative approaches to the Bible and theology. They are told they can be either 'liberal' or 'conservative,' but both approaches carry baggage many find too heavy to bear. Gregory A. Boyd’s greatest contribution to contemporary Christianity is to provide a completely different alternative—neither 'liberal' nor 'conservative' but thoroughly Christ and cross-centered. Cross Vision, like so many of Boyd’s other books, presents an alternative paradigm to the usual ones and does it with charm and challenge.”

Determined to Believe?

Theology

“Professor Lennox raises serious biblical, theological, and philosophical questions about theological determinism – the belief that God has foreordained and rendered certain all that happens including who will be saved and who will not be saved. Anyone curious about this belief must read Determined to Believe?”

Does God Love Everyone?

Theology

“Walls demonstrates biblically and philosophically the 'heart of what's wrong with Calvinism' while maintaining an irenic spirit. Everyone concerned about truth, evangelism, and the honor of God ought to read this book, especially if they are not yet settled in their mind about the Calvinist 'doctrines of grace.'”

Evangelical Theological Method

Theology

“Evangelical Theological Method: Five Views differs from other comparative views books in that the various views are not necessarily contrary but can be complementary to each other. All five are articulated brilliantly by their authors, and perceptive readers will find much to commend in all of them.”

Evangelicals and Liberation Revisited

Theology

Foreword

(wrote the foreword)

Faith in the Shadows

Apologetics

“With Faith in the Shadows, Austin Fischer steps out of the shadows and into the limelight of leading contemporary American Christian pastor-theologians. This book is a must-read for every pastor who struggles with issues of Christian faith in an increasingly doubt-filled and confused world. The line between hardcore fundamentalism and insipid theological liberalism is a fine one these days; most people fall to one side or the other. Fischer helpfully points out the path between and beyond them.”

Getting the Reformation Wrong

History & Biography

“Getting the Reformation Wrong gets the Reformation right. All students of the Reformation, whether academic or just interested, must read this book. It rightly sets the record straight about the great people and ideas of the Protestant and Catholic Reformations of the sixteenth century in a refreshingly engaging style.”

GraceQuest

History & Biography

Foreword

“GraceQuest is a gripping story of one man's (and his family's) struggle with tremendous weakness and pain, but it is also a narrative theodicy--defense of God's goodness in spite of the undeniable reality of evil. . . . This is an honest and hard-hitting book about God's grace in and through tremendous loss of health and strength. Readers will find hope and help here if they are open to its message about the God-given 'strength to suffer well.'”

Jesus’ Best Friend

Fiction

“Imaginative, creative, well-researched, informative, and inspiring all describe this delightful ‘biography’ of Jesus.”

John Howard Yoder

Theology

“Numerous thoughtful, reflective young Christians are becoming enamored with Yoder--something giving rise to many different interpretations of his thought. Weaver and his co-authors offer an alternative approach to many others. For them, Yoder's whole lifework is rooted in the narrative of the life and ministry of Jesus and therefore in Christology. If they are correct, Yoder can only rightly be understood as 'radical,' which means 'back to the roots' of Christianity in the man Jesus. I highly recommend this volume to everyone interested in Yoder and the increasingly lively conversation about his theology.”

Justification

Theology

“No single volume could possibly cover all Christian views of the doctrine of justification. Justification: Five Views courageously selects five contemporary views and helpfully presents and critiques them. Each view is expounded and defended by a leading proponent and then critiqued by other contributors. Anyone interested in the current discussion about this crucial Christian doctrine must read this book. It sheds more light than heat in an area of theology almost burned over by heated polemics. Of all the 'views' books out there, this is one of the best.”

Ministry in the Image of God

Church Leadership & Ministry

“One thing too often missing from the contemporary renaissance of the doctrine of the Trinity is its practical application especially to ministry. Stephen Seamands has helpfully closed that gap with Ministry in the Image of God. Now we know how belief in the Trinity impacts the practices of ministry. Every Christian minister (lay or professional) interested in integrating theology with Christian service should read this book.”
