A Little Book for New Theologians
Theology
“Kelly Kapic concisely states major characteristics of thinking theologically in this little book. For readers who wish a brief explanation of how the study of God functions with reason, prayer, study, humility and repentance, this is a very good beginning. Utilizing salient insights from Augustine, Calvin, Kierkegaard and major reform theologians, he maps out the territory for understanding that theology is naturally a part of living.”
History & Biography
“The most thorough biography of Charles Wesley available. It is based on rigorous knowledge of the extensive primary sources (journals, poetry, hymns, letters, ephemera), and it establishes John Tyson as the preeminent living interpreter of Charles Wesley. An inspiring and informative read, this book will be an indispensable addition to the library of any serious student of the Wesleys.”
Exploring Protestant Traditions
Theology
“Very perceptively David Buschart distinguishes the context, method and characteristic beliefs of the eight major Protestant theological traditions: Lutheran, Anabaptist, Reformed, Anglican, Baptist, Wesleyan, Dispensational and Pentecostal. With extraordinary fairness and clarity, he makes it easy to grasp not only their thematic distinctives but also provides a strong argument for their underlying similarities. He therefore shows the basis upon which a conscientious theological hospitality is possible between them, without diminishing their distinctive approaches. This is a very useful way of organizing and understanding the varieties of Protestant theology.”
Theology
“This work will be read by all who are interested in the renewal of systematic theology in our time. It is an inspiring, balanced, instructive, rigorous inquiry.”
Martyrdom from Exegesis in Hippolytus
Biblical Studies & Commentaries
“An important book that reveals some of the earliest layers of ancient Christian commentary on scripture, featuring especially the relation of the Daniel text to the early history of martyrdom during the persecution under Septimius Severus.”
Reading the Old Testament with the Ancient Church
Theology
“Ron Heine has written this book for a wide variety of readers: pastors, New Testament and patristics scholars, and general lay readers. This is a very helpful introduction to the ways the ancient Christian writers viewed the Scriptures. Heine comes to the subject with a significant grasp of both primary sources and contemporary scholarship. The argument is illuminating and inspiring.”
Theology
“Many evangelicals are recovering their pre-Reformation roots in the early apostolic church and patristic studies. Michael Svigel has shown how pastors and churches can begin to implement this recovery and how to think about it. This is a wise and helpful book that will be exceptionally valuable to those who engage in this revitalization.”
Theology
“A splendid initiative in constructively reworking evangelical hermeneutics and theological method. . . . Lints deserves careful reading by those seeking to redefine the theological task within evangelicalism.”
History & Biography
“I am deeply pleased to see the new book by Justo González on Augustine, which places him rightly in the African context. The author's theme of the crosscultural intricacies of Augustine's life illumines many other issues Christians face today. It is an extremely readable book by a distinguished church historian.”
Theology
“An extraordinary collaboration of scholars examining the neglected theme of deification in the classic Christian tradition from its biblical roots through Irenaeus, Augustine, and Maximus, to contemporary reconstructions of Torrance and Soloviev.”
Three Views on Eastern Orthodoxy and Evangelicalism
Theology
“A timely and important subject—the theological compatibility of evangelicals and Eastern Orthodox believers, with some of the most capable commentators on the scene. It will introduce evangelicals to Orthodoxy and the Orthodox to evangelicals and show where the fault lines are between them, with no fudging, and where the Spirit is leading the church toward a more perfect embodiment of the union of believers in Christ.”
