A Basic Guide to Biblical Theology

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“What a wonderful book on biblical theology! This volume is one of the most accessible, well-balanced, and engaging books on the subject. This project not only introduces readers to the major themes and structure of the Bible but also contains a splendid chapter on how to read Scripture responsibly. For anyone looking to dip their toes in the waters of biblical theology or to wade into the deep end, I heartily recommend Alan Thompson’s A Basic Guide to Biblical Theology.”

Blessed

Theology

“Nancy Guthrie reminds us that Saint John wrote about dragons, eagles, and beasts—not to fuel twenty-first-century speculation about their precise, physical referent, but to motivate the church towards godliness in the midst of a pagan culture. Revelation invites the church to gather around the throne of the holy God, Lamb, and Spirit and worship in every aspect of life. We need more books such as this on the capstone of the Bible’s storyline, and I’m eager to see how God will use this volume for his glory!”

Divine Blessing and the Fullness of Life in the Presence of God

Theology

“For those looking for a biblical map of blessing, I commend this thoughtful volume. As an even-handed guide, William Osborne journeys through Genesis to Revelation, drawing the reader’s attention to many high points. Believers should rejoice over every spiritual blessing they now enjoy in the exalted Christ.”

Echoes of Exodus

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Estelle deftly guides the reader, from Genesis through Revelation, to a central teaching of the Bible—the exodus of the Israelites and the unrivaled rule of God. Drawing from a well of primary and secondary sources, this well-written volume is carefully researched and hermeneutically sensitive. Most of all, this book gazes at Christ’s work in delivering his people from the slavery of sin and leading them through the waters of redemption. Certainly recommended!”

How to Study the Bible's Use of the Bible

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Gary Edward Schnittjer’s and Matthew S. Harmon’s project, How to Study the Bible’s Use of the Bible, is a treat. Rarely does a project glean from the OT’s use of the OT and apply those insights into the apostles’ use of the OT. They evaluate contemporary approaches, offer a way forward, and wisely articulate seven hermeneutical choices for the reader.”

Old Made New

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Greg Lanier has produced a fine, accessible manual on the apostles’ use of the Old Testament. Old Made New wisely instructs the reader through the maze of inner-biblical exegesis. New Testament authors carefully draw from the Old Testament to signal the fulfillment of the Bible’s story in Christ and his people.”

Paul, Apostle of God's Glory in Christ

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“It is always a genuine delight to read Schreiner—he's clear, concise, insightful, and most of all, pastoral. Writing a theology of Paul requires years of exegesis and serious theological reflection. In the second edition of Paul, Apostle of God's Glory in Christ, readers are once again treated to a clear exposition and theology of Paul's thirteen letters. Schreiner's love for Christ and commitment to Scripture shine through the project, as he rightly sees God's work in Christ as the foundation of Pauline theology. There is little doubt that this volume will find a home in the classroom and on countless shelves of pastors and teachers.”

Perfect Priest for Weary Pilgrims

Theology

“The book of Hebrews is a difficult nut to crack. The contemporary church often struggles with making sense of a book that is so steeped in Old Testament language and imagery. Dennis Johnson is a gifted communicator—incisive and elegant—and every time I read his writing, I learn a great deal. Perfect Priest for Weary Pilgrims captures the complex theology of Hebrews yet never loses sight of the book’s exhortation for believers.”

Return from Exile and the Renewal of God's People

Theology

“Return from Exile and the Renewal of God’s People is one of the most accessible and sensible studies to date on the theme of exile. Nicholas Piotrowski reminds us that the biblical writers consistently equate death and life with exile and the return from exile. Death is the result of the separation from the triune God’s life-giving presence, and true life can thus only be found in the presence of God through the work of Christ.”

Saved Personal Bible Study

Christian Living

“Nancy Guthrie’s Saved gets at the heart of Acts. Her volume reminds the church of the resurrected Lord sitting on the Father’s throne. Christ pours out the Spirit upon believers, and the Spirit ensures the arrival of God’s glory to the ends of the earth. What began in the first century continues today, and we must reconsider our calling as it relates to our community and the world around us.”

The Divine Christology of the Apostle Paul

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Bruno, Lee, and Schreiner have gifted the church with a terrific overview of contemporary approaches to Christology in Paul. Their survey, balanced and informed, contains helpful taxonomies of the major positions. For anyone looking to enter the debate or simply gain a better understanding of Paul's conception of Christ, this is a wonderful place to start.”

The Genuine Jesus and the Counterfeit Christs

Biblical Studies & Commentaries

“Simon Gathercole’s The Genuine Jesus and the Counterfeit Christs gets to the heart of why the four Gospels are genuine: they embody the message of Christ and the apostles, a message that fulfills Old Testament expectations. The apocryphal gospels, though, don’t reflect this message. This learned yet accessible volume deserves wide readership and belongs on the shelves of lay people, students, pastors, and teachers. Highly recommended!”

The Gospels Are Reliable History

Apologetics

“I’m thrilled that we are witnessing a recent spate of books that argue for the historical reliability of the Gospels. Craig Keener’s latest, The Gospels Are Reliable History, summarizes and expands his previous work. This volume is clear and accessible, but his insights are rich. We can be confident that the Gospels are the product of eyewitnesses who lived in the period of living memory of Jesus. I do hope that pastors, students, and lay people will take the time to read this gem.” |”
